Why LVP became the default recommendation

Ask most flooring crews what they'd put in their own house and a lot of them say LVP - waterproof, tough enough for dogs and kids, and close enough to real hardwood in a photo that most guests never notice the difference. Providence Flooring stocks LVP built on rigid SPC and WPC cores, the same construction designers spec on higher-end renovations.

We're a new company, but the products we carry aren't - these are established manufacturers with track records, not whatever's cheapest to ship that quarter. Read what recent customers say.

Why LVP became the default recommendation

Three numbers that actually matter

Ignore the marketing names on the box and ask about these three specs instead - we'll walk you through all of them during your in-home visit.

  • Wear layer 12-20 mil - fine for light use, rentals and bedrooms
  • Wear layer 22 mil - our most common recommendation for whole homes
  • Wear layer 28-30 mil - heavy residential and commercial-grade toughness
  • SPC core - rigid, won't telegraph small subfloor bumps
  • WPC core - a bit softer and warmer underfoot

Click-lock or glue-down

Click-lock LVP floats over the subfloor and installs fast, which is great for most residential rooms. Glue-down feels more solid underfoot and holds up better in very large open spaces or commercial settings. We'll recommend one based on your room size and subfloor, not on which is faster for us to install. Curious how LVP compares to sheet vinyl or vinyl floor tile? Ask us during your visit.

What separates a good LVP job from a bad one

It's almost never the plank itself - it's the subfloor prep underneath it. We level dips, fill low spots, and use the underlayment the manufacturer actually specifies rather than whatever's cheapest. If your project includes a staircase, we treat vinyl stairs as a separate scope with matching nosings so the whole floor plan ties together.

Luxury Vinyl Plank - frequently asked questions

It's usually our top recommendation in South Jersey. It's fully waterproof, doesn't react to humidity, and holds up well in homes with sandy floors and salty air.

The wear layer resists scratching, but heavy dogs and dragged furniture can still scuff a thin one. For larger dogs we usually recommend a 20-mil or thicker wear layer.

With a 22-mil or thicker wear layer, expect roughly 20-25 years of normal residential use before it needs replacing.
